Prof. Iwai, Misaki
Chair, Department of
Languages and Culture |
This department is designed to provide students knowledge
and skill of solving global problems about the environment,
development, human rights, racial issues, and gender.
These problems are many-sided and cannot be solved only
in a specific country or by only one organization.
Progress requires people around the world to collaborate
with each other. In particular, language ability and a wide knowledge
of the world are needed.
In our department, students study not only English
but also an additional language: Indonesian, Thai, Vietnamese,
or Portuguese. This double major in two languages is
the first at a university in Japan. In addition, students
learn about global problems as well as subjects such as international
studies and the culture, history, politics, and
economics of the ASEAN region or Brazil.
Moreover, since students must deepen their knowledge
about their own country in order to take an active
part in international society, Japanese politics, economics,
culture and history are also studied.
