Education in the undergraduate program (B.A. program) emphasizes the study of language, culture and academic research. There are six departments: English, Chinese, Spanish, Korean, International Communication, and Languages and Culture.

The students choose one language as major at the time of the entrance examination. In the case of students entering the Department of Languages and Culture, they choose English and another language (Indonesian, Thai, Vietnamese or Brazilian Portuguese) as a double major.

Students are required to select one of 13 research areas as a minor concentraion. Registration for the area is done in the 3rd year of university. If students desire to deepen their study of
a particular field, they can also take seminars in the research areas and write a senior thesis.

Additionally, students can take teacher training courses and practice teaching to obtain accreditation for teaching their language major in Japan. This qualifies students to teach at junior high and high school levels in Japan.
