The
major language course is based on the general English
courses; which are required throughout the four years
at the university. Freshmen and sophomores are required
to take courses aimed at mastering basic English language
skills by studying the four essential elements of listening
comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing in order
to prepare for academic classes in specialized courses
conducted only in English. The general English course
begins with Freshman English: a small class taught by
native teachers in whom English is spoken exclusively.
These small classes are one of the unique features of
this University. As you move up to the junior and senior
levels, the contents of the classes become richer and
more specialized. You may select a theme you like among
a number of unique courses such as linguistics, international
relations, Japan-U.S cultural gaps, and Hollywood movies.
Courses to improve specialized skills such as listening
comprehension of broadcast English are also available.
All the lessons are interactive and require discussions
instead of passive listening. Of course, English is
frequently spoken in the class. So you can advance to
an advanced level of English fluency by reading, discussing,
and writing reports, including a graduation thesis,
in English. |
